Blue Mountain Beach

The high ground of 30A — dunes taller than the houses in places, stairs over the ridge, and the widest sand on the stretch.

The neighborhood

Blue Mountain sits on the tallest dunes on the Gulf Coast — 60 feet in places — which means stairs over the ridge and views from second floors that stretch for miles. In March the dunes bloom with blue lupine; in October the muhly grass turns the color of pink smoke.

The village is small on purpose: a creamery, a bakery, a bike shop, and a wine bar with a porch. Mornings belong to the beach accesses off Blue Mountain Road; evenings belong to the sunset facing due west down the sand.

Our two houses here are our biggest — Salt Cotton, four minutes over the walkover, and Muhly, directly on the sand with its own boardwalk.

Good to know

Where do we go for groceries?

Publix in WaterColor is eight minutes east; the Blue Mountain bakery covers mornings. Send us your list before arrival and we'll stock the kitchen for a $75 fee plus groceries.

Is the dune walkover difficult?

The public walkovers have stairs — about thirty steps at the Blue Mountain Road access. Muhly's private boardwalk is a gentle ramp. Salt Cotton's lane-end walkover sits in the middle.

What's the beach like here?

Wide, flat, and calm — the dune lake outflows nearby keep the water gentle. No vendor rows; set up wherever you like with the chairs from the house.
