Why every house has a name

A saltmarsh is the grassy marsh behind the dunes, where cordgrass slows the tide and herons hunt at low water. We borrowed the name because our houses sit in that same in-between — pine shade on one side, open gulf on the other.

Locals on 30A name their houses, and we do the same: Dune Rose, Fiddler, Crow's Nest and six more. You will never be handed a unit number.
